Scope of Position:

Primary function is to lead slurry coating activities within the Application Fundamental ETD program. The role of this individual is to develop into a subject matter expert in slurry coating of CET products, the process used to deposit such coatings and corresponding performance testing. A second area of responsibility for this position will be to oversee product characterizations (e.g. microscopy, SEM, material properties, etc.) and perform failure mode analysis of provided samples. Creating and maintaining a database of results and clearly reporting findings via reports to internal and external teams. This task will require significant collaboration with colleagues around the world. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with technical product development groups, research scientists, all Corning R&D labs, engineering, commercial and possibly supply chain partners.

Day to Day
Responsibilities:

For each project in which this individual will be involved, she/he will interact with a customer (new product project, their manager or directly with Engineering or Commercial groups for market support. It is expected that this role will require a self-driven individual who can be proactive and work independently to define and execute specific objectives. This role would require the daily ability to:

define detailed experimental plans enabling them to reach key project objectives

identify the proper process or measurement to use; or develop new processes if needed

conduct experiments (or supervise technicians conducting such experiments) to gain fundamental or empirical knowledge to address the technical challenges

use various analytical material characterization tools/methods to analyze field return samples to resolve the performance concerns

perform data analysis, interpretation & define next steps

present results and when applicable make recommendations to projects to improve performance based on above

develop new intellectual property Experimental plans to be related to external coating characterization, internal coating process and characterization. General management of failure mode analysis and product/material characterization will be required, where this role will oversee the planning of such product evaluations and the definition of what characterization methods would be appropriate; as well as interpretation of measurement results and reporting findings to various teams on a regular basis.

Additional responsibilities may include management of labs (2-3) and a group of technicians (2-4) including coaching & mentoring, work plan development, project meetings.

Travel Requirements (please note if international):
Variable but expectation is Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
