Position Description:
This position will serve as a primary counsel for the Chief Supply Chain Officer, the Global Supply Chain function and the Global Supply Management team within Corning and will play a crucial role to provide the legal support needed for Corning to establish and maintain world class supply chain ecosystems within our market access platforms. This position will work closely with the CSCO and other global supply chain leaders in each of our major businesses, as well as leaders within the Global Supply Management function to help achieve business results. Your work will include drafting, reviewing, and supporting the negotiation of contracts using your legal expertise on commercial matters, including the purchase and sale of goods and services, construction and design build projects, capital equipment purchases and installation,; product distribution, transportation and trade compliance matters, and finally issues pertaining to corporate sustainability. You will provide advice and training on negotiating contract terms and the resolution of disputes to help achieve business goals while proactively managing and mitigating business risk. This position will engage and interact with other members of the Corning Law Department who support Corning s global businesses and facilities, and with experts with the Law Department who advise and manage matters related to intellectual property, antitrust, corporate compliance, and ESG matters.

Scope of Position:

  • Lead interface between Corning Law Department, Global Supply Chain, and Global Supply Management leadership
  • Member of Global Supply Chain and GSM leadership teams that has oversight of $4.8B worth of spending by company worldwide
  • Coordinate with in-house counsel in Europe and Asia who provide local support to GSM team members in these regions
  • Manage U.S. domestic legal support team who support contract drafting and negotiations with domestic procurement professionals
  • Coordinate with litigation colleagues in Law Department to resolve offensive & defensive dispute resolution processes
  • Reports directly to Vice President of Commercial & International Law for Corning

Day to Day
Responsibilities:

  • Business and legal counseling to senior management personnel in the company s Global Supply Chain and Global Supply Management teams
  • Manage and coordinate provision of legal support by U.S. domestic legal team involved in contract drafting, negotiation, and dispute resolution in collaboration with the company s supply chain professionals
  • Provide advice and counsel on a wide range of business strategies designed to support the needs of Corning s commercial businesses
  • Collaborate closely with the Global Supply Chain and GSM professionals to improve contracting processes, practices, and training materials
  • Stay engaged in material supply chain relationships that could impact the company s global businesses to minimize risk of business disruption or dispute
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of strategic contract opportunities of significant importance to the company.
  • Negotiate commercial agreements that support the company s supply chain professionals
  • Engage with regional legal counsel on significant matters in the provision of legal support
  • Manage and update current contract templates and corresponding guidance and best practices
  • Coordinate training initiatives and material development
  • Enforce compliance with Law Department s contracting guidelines and procedures, Corning s Global buying policy, and other relevant policies
  • Stay current with market trends and conditions related to material goods and services purchased by Corning and in the industry environment of Corning.
  • Keep informed of current laws, regulations and developments

Required Education:
Juris Doctor degree

    • logistics, transportation, trade compliance.
  • In-house experience at a technology or innovation company also preferred
  • Self-starter who is curious, loves technology, innovation, and thrives in a dynamic environment

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
