The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs.
Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial segments that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.

Scope of Position:

In this role, you will provide direct support and lead Performance Excellence (PEx) activities within the Corning Advanced Optics organization, effectively coaching and leading projects focused on continuous improvement.
Develop and deploy standardized methods focused on improving business results of process/employee efficiency, safety, and delivery.
This position supports the establishment, maintenance, and measurement of PEx performance including implementation of PEx strategy, training, coordination & tracking of metrics, skills development, monitoring of DMAIC projects, activities and tollgates.

Day to Day
Responsibilities:

  • Working with the organization to successfully drive, coach, and run sustainable PEx projects in manufacturing as well as business support functions.
  • Work with sites to implement and sustain a 3-year PEx roadmap and annual plan that aligns with key plant and division manufacturing strategies and vital few objectives.
  • Provide support in employee coaching of PEx tools, as needed to support their functions, and build their capability to apply these tools/methodologies (this includes providing training resources, and assessing effectiveness as needed).
  • Serve as a leader for PEx improvement programs and awareness training across plants and functions.
  • Support coaching and development of Green belts and Black belts.
  • Support and champion the APQP process throughout product lifecycle using the appropriate methodologies, tools, templates.
  • Provide guidance to Program Managers related to APQP support the translation of customer expectations into specific tasks to achieve mutual agreed upon goals.
  • Serve as the Voice of Customer in a team environment and communicate customer requirements.
  • Work as liaison between all functions to ensure expectations of customer are understood and drive resolution quality issue prior to launch (transfer from engineering to production).

Required Education &
Experience:

  • We require a Bachelor s Degree in an Engineering field
  • We are seeking 4
    years experience in process, manufacturing, or quality engineering and 3
    years PEx experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience applying PEx in business support functions.
  • Certification in Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt), PQA (minimum GB) is required.
    Lean is appreciated and valued.
  • Statistical analysis including histogram, Pareto, correlation, hypothesis tests, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Capability analysis and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
  • Knowledge in Lean concepts such as value stream mapping, flow, pull and tools commonly used to eliminate waste, including kaizen, 5S, error-proofing, standard work, etc.
  • Applied knowledge of quality engineering principles such as Voice of Customer (VOC), risk analysis, control plans, sampling plans, financial performance (verification of cost impact) and good documentation practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (i.

    Excel).
    This role needs proficient technical writing skills and proficiency with statistical analysis.

Experience:

  • Experience with SPC Systems (i.
    e.
    Minitab and/or Tableau / JMP) is preferred.
  • Product Quality Architecture knowledge or training.
  • Minimum of 1-year experience of PPAP.

Travel Requirements:

  • We anticipate 25 - 50% travel with the possibility of international travel, as needed.
