Position Description: The general paralegal role within Cornings Legal Department will work with multiple attorneys on a variety of matters, primarily with the lawyer assigned to oversee export compliance affairs. The position may also require the chosen person to assist the Corporate Employment Lawyer and the attorneys responsible for the Corporate Compliance Program. Periodic legal research may also be required and the provision of assistance to the Companys other lawyers on an as-needed basis.
Key
Responsibilities:
Subject to the overall supervision of the lawyer responsible for export control compliance, timely responsiveness to export control related questions and inquiries, including classification of goods and technologies, provision of advice concerning export restrictions, completion and submission of applications for licenses, and submission of periodic reports required with respect of licenses granted.
Assist in the training of business units on export control laws and the application of those laws to the individual unit or site. In so doing, periodic travel is required to various Company sites to delivery on-site training.
Work with Cornings Security Department and Corporate Compliance Officer or his designee to process and maintain records related to internal investigations involving alleged violations of the Companys Code of Conduct and potentially whistleblower type claims.
Provide support to Company lawyers responsible for handling litigation and investigations. In so doing, this person will monitor, communicate, and coordinate discovery efforts with internal and external counsel and maintain a tickler to ensure timely filing of necessary pleadings.
Provide support to other lawyers in the Law Department, as required and time permitting.
Periodic legal research using online databases and similar resources, as requested.
Travel Requirements: 10-15% domestic
Education &
Experience: Bachelors degree
Critical Knowledge, Skills, and Behaviors:
Ability to understand export control laws, regulations, and rules.
Ability to speak with technical and commercial community to gain understanding of technology and products and properly classify the same.
Careful monitoring and tracking of export control license applications and comply with annual reporting obligations.
Ability to perform initial drafting of voluntary disclosures and requests for special licenses with government agencies.
Ability to speak before an audience for purposes of providing guidance and training on the export control regime and its application to a particular work site.
Understanding of Cornings information technology capabilities and work with Cornings Information Technology experts for purposes of conducting electronic document discovery and production.
Ability to monitor, track and report on employment related litigation claims.
Ability to negotiate deadlines for work product deliverables with in-house counsel and meet the agreed deadlines.
Ability to conduct legal research using Lexis database and other online resources.
Required Skills:
Knowledge of legal principles and practices at a level normally acquired through formal paralegal training or its equivalent.
Proficiency in the following software: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word; proficiency in/experience with Microsoft SharePoint software.

Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
