Responsibilities:
Broaden and extend Corning Inc.s competency in the field of precision machinery system design, development, and implementation for a variety of applications from prototype to plant floor level manufacturing systems. This will require an individual familiar with developing, promoting, and implementing the following; unique machine system designs to solve non-classical applications, an understanding of procedures for precision machinery systems, the ability to develop machine specifications, the ability to design or direct the design and analyze machinery systems utilizing state of the art analysis packages, project management of applications from concept to certification and installation of the systems at a manufacturing location, be proactive in the propagation of precision engineering principles and practices within Corning.
Projects involved with:
Development of robust, cost effective first/next generation machine systems and product designs that provide significant competitive advantage to Cornings businesses, and / or enable new products and product lines. The individual will be responsible to participate on cross-functional project teams, on early innovation stage projects, through concept generation / certification, technology development, detail design / build, and start-up in manufacturing.

High level of fundamental understanding of the process and materials to enable the development of cost effective products and machine systems.
Ability to work in a team based environment and participate on a highly matrixed project team
Understand how to integrate commercially available technologies and processes to enable Corning, Inc. to develop into robust next generation process equipment solutions.
Able to effectively leverage external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build, and integration of later stages of machine system implementation
Understand and practice the use of semiconductor automation procedures and techniques
Have an awareness of DFA/DFM principles.
Be responsible for the functional and operational integrity of design, estimating costs, defining project scope, budget and schedule
Be responsible for identification of project resources necessary to complete the project tasks and coordinate the project teams efforts towards successfully achieving overall project objectives.
Procure, implement and document systems and assist in training operational personnel. Maintain records and track expenditures against allocated funds. Estimate time required to accomplishing tasks and monitoring performance against schedules.
Travel Requirements: Estimate travel at 10% - 30% depending upon specific project assignment. Travel may be required during installation, debug, and start-up as well as for routine interaction with Customers and Suppliers.
Required Skills:
Technical expertise in the field of machine systems design and development
Technical expertise in the field of thermal equipment development for glass and glass/ceramic processes for the pharmaceutical packaging market place
Technical Interface between Corning, and OEM automation suppliers to insures Corning success on New Business Development programs
