This position is a collaborative role working with business unit, technology, and commercial groups to understand and interpret industry trends and external proposals and to advance views of Corning. The role involves participation in national and regional standardization groups as well as International Standardization groups specific to the business portfolio assigned. Objective An experienced person who advances Corning views on subjects of impact to a selected Business Unit portfolio in relevant standardization bodies. Preferably, he/she would already have a working perspective on a broad range of markets and applications spaces including, but not limited to product performance including Optical / Visual, Mechanical and Environmental aspects as well as requirements for use, performance, and reliability. The role is aligned to work in collaboration with specified Corning Market Access Platforms (MAPs) product teams as well as relevant Corning Science & Technology groups. Day to Day
Responsibilities:
Active collaboration and engagement with business constituencies on business strategies and initiatives which drives our standards actions and resulting impact Document and communicate results of previous meetings and planned initiatives and actions for upcoming meetings Represent Corning (or manage those representing Corning within portfolio) to ensure that appropriate strategy, IP, and ethical guidelines are followed in advancing Corning positions Monitor developments across portfolio of external standards groups for new initiatives and contributions requiring action Collaborate across broad internal constituencies to ensure a coherent and systems level approach to external standards groups is advanced and are understood, and advocate in those groups for Corning's views on the same Projects involved with Responsible for managing portfolio of business interests across domestic and international standardization groups. Responsible for timely identification and socialization of technical issues before standards groups within affected business areas, consultation with Technology, PLM Commercial, and other Engineering staffs to develop a Corning response or proactive position, and ensuring appropriate voting and comments on documents of interest to Corning Responsible to lead the Corning position and coordinate and manage the strategy used by business SME's in external standards bodies to achieve a successful outcome Work with technology and business leaders ensure awareness of external trends and potential strategic opportunities in external standards groups. Role within GTIS group:
Work with other Standard Managers and with business stakeholders to develop and maintain a comprehensive Corning strategy across external standards groups Communicate and share relevant information Support development of draft documents for Corning proposals Education:
Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Physics Desired:
M.S. or PhD in same areas or MBA Required Skills Technical understanding of Corning products and their value proposition in the intended applications Minimum of 5 years' experience in technology relevant to Corning products, processes, and materials Interpersonal skills to effectively present technical arguments one on one, one on few and one on many in an international and multicultural setting Written communication skills to facilitate drafting and review / editing of technical documents and proposals Verbal communication skills to effectively interface with scientists, project leaders, business leaders to concisely explain business and technical implications of an issue Desired Skills Prior experience in external standardization Strong computer skills in use of MS-Office Programs, and experience with web-based collaboration tools and remote meeting / communications tools Project management skills:
Ability to manage a multi-year project while motivating volunteer participants to achieve a timely completion Ability to clearly communicate in English and understand other language accents, knowledge of other languages is a plus Ability to understand and contribute to internal modeling and analysis efforts of Corning products. Soft Skills:
Strong communication skills to allow interaction with a wide range of people from the technician to the boardroom Persuasion and ability to professionally assert position despite technical or political challenges Self-motivating, to be able to independently manage and multitask projects with long dwell times which require communication and coordination, as well as urgent periods of action followed by long pauses between events Travel Requirements:
Approximately 35% Including International. Travel ( Post COVID Environment)
Salary Range:
$100K -- $150K
Minimum Qualification
Engineering Management, Mechanical EngineeringEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
