Development Scientist- Glass Chemical Strengthening at Corning Incorporated in Corning, NY

As a Development Scientist/Engineer for Gorilla Glass, you will be a key member of a team developing processes for mechanical strengthening of glass, glass ceramics or composites. You will enable the development of new technologies, products, and processes. You will work with colleagues within glass, modelling and analytical research groups to enable fundamental, mechanistic understanding. You will collaborate with engineering and applications engineering teams globally in problem solving towards successful technology transfers. You will contribute to developing intellectual property for Corning Inc. Day to Day
Responsibilities:
Develop experimental plans towards development of new products Execute critical experiments to determine performance relative to requirements Review relevant internal and external literature Document and present experimental and modeling results Work closely with team members in product and process development organization Interface and collaborate with commercial, engineering and manufacturing colleagues Direct activities of technicians and bench strength Maintain safe and clean work environment Travel Requirements (please note if international):
Domestic or international travel may be required ( 5%) Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:
40+, flex-time Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration) PhD - Materials Science/Engineering, Chemistry, Glass Science/Engineering, Ceramic Science/Engineering BS or MS in Materials Science/Engineering, Chemistry Glass Science/Engineering, Ceramic Science/Engineering or Geology plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant industrial experience Required Skills (These are skills that candidates MUST possess) Strong understanding of materials science and chemistry fields Basic understanding of glass chemistry-property relationships Basic understanding of glass strengthening processes Knowledge of characterization tools for bulk and surface properties of materials Strong systematic problem-solving skills Technically curious, self-motivated individual Ability to work independently and in teams Ability to develop and execute experimental plans Strong hands-on technical skills in laboratory settings Attention to detail, rigorous execution of work and documentation Able to manage multiple priorities at same time
Salary Range:
$80K -- $100K
Minimum Qualification
Mechanical Engineering, Chemical EngineeringEstimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
